2017: A Digital Marketing Odyssey

Digital marketing, Can you go too far with it? We’d say you couldn’t but finding inspiration can sometimes be tedious…because, where do you start? For us, I find it a simple process. We  always usually go back to our second great love, aside from digital marketing itself; Film.

How can you relate this to marketing? A fundamental element of marketing is advertising – and what’s a crucial feature of advertising? Graphic Design. As a team, we agree that design is everything: in relating film to advertising, we look specifically at the cinematography and the colour palettes used. There are two directors whose work is especially relevant in this regard: Stanley Kubrick and Wes Anderson. If you do a basic Google search, you’ll find that they have produced many films that are specifically acclaimed for to their cinematography. The use of subject, symmetry & composition almost create this sense of escapism; not exactly surrealism, but more dream-like. It’s like a nostalgic feeling, something that we can still get a very real sense of, even if we weren’t from that time.

The same applies to the use of colour, these film makers use colour to it’s fullest extent. Their films are carefully co-ordinated down to a tee; they use colour extremely closely and in every way possible. The likes of this really inspires us to create content that affects people in the same way.

We feel like there needs to be a change, it’s soon approaching the 20’s (the year 2020)  and wouldn’t it be nice if we defined that decade as one that was looked back on as a somewhat golden era in marketing?
